Raters: Jason Freudenburg  Madison  &  Jared Owens  Tekamah

12/14/17

TOP 10 CLASS C MEET TEAMS #1  12/14/17

  1. Valentine
  2. Battle Creek
  3. David City
  4. North Bend
  5. Broken Bow
  6. Syracuse
  7. Ord
  8. Aquinas
  9. Central City
  10. Gibbon

COMMENTS: Valentine will remain the favorite to repeat as champions. David City and Battle Creek are both wrestling at a very high quality at this point in the season. North Bend will be the Dark Horse in the Class C race. They have the potential to score a lot of points, and have 3-4 that could be wrestling Saturday afternoon. Broken Bow is really solid in a lot of weights but may lack the top end firepower to compete for a trophy on Saturday.  Syracuse in the opposite with a lot of high end power but lacks in depth at this point in the season.  Ord, Aquinas, Central City, and Gibbon have a lot of really high quality kids rounding out maybe the deepest Class C Top Ten I have seen in a long time.

TOP 10 CLASS C DUAL TEAMS #1  12/14/17

  1. Valentine
  2. David City
  3. Battle Creek
  4. Broken Bow
  5. North Bend
  6. Ord
  7. Gibbon
  8. Aquinas
  9. Central City
  10. Syracuse

COMMENTS: With 7-8 kids that have the ability to score bonus points on anybody they wrestling, it will be extremely hard for anyone in Class C to defeat the Badgers.  David City has looked much better at this point in the season than I thought they would. Battle Creek and Broken Bow have  line ups that will keep any dual close. NorthBend has a lot of firepower and depending on matches could take down any team ahead of them. Ord has a solid line up.  Gibbon and Aquinas are very dangerous and could give lots of teams problems.  Central City and Syracuse both are young but keep getting better as the year moves on.

Top 6 Individuals:

106

1.) Dyson Kunz, Central City, Fr.

2.) Chris Williams, Valentine, Fr.

3.) Hunter Gilmore, Arlington, Fr.

4.) Casey Benavides, Bridgeport, So

5.) Zach Zitek, Aquinas, Fr.

6.) Landon Zeckser, Doniphan-Trumbull, So.

COMMENTS: The top 4 with Kunz, Williams, Gilmore, and Benavides are all undefeated while Zitek’s only loss is to Jalen Maher from Auburn. Zeckser’s only loss is to Zitek. This is a solid field and it should be interesting to see how they separate themselves from one another throughout the next couple weeks.

113

1.) Caydon McCracken, Battle Creek, Jr.

2.) Seth Styskal, David City, Sr.

3.) Casey Faulkenberry, Broken Bow, Fr.

4.) Ryan Zoucha, Malcolm, Jr.

5.) Colton Rowse, Ord, So.

6.) Jacob Paczosa, St. Paul, Sr.

COMMENTS: McCracken gets the number one vote because he is a returning State Champion. Styskal comes in at a close second because of his high state finish last year. Faulkenberry has beaten both Zoucha and Rowse this year at the Broken Bow Invitational to give him the 3 spot. Zoucha and Rowse are both good wrestlers so they come in at 4 and 5. Paczosa lost to both Zoucha and Rowse to put him at the 6 spot. The top three at this weight class so far have separated themselves from the rest of the pack but there is a lot of season left.

 120

1.) Lee Carlson, Sutton, Jr.

2.) Spencer Gaffney, Broken Bow, Jr.

3.) Brandon Schram, Tekamah-Herman, Jr.

4.) Talon Petska, Ord, Jr.

5.) Zack Barlean, David City, So.

6.) Jadden Treffer, Ravenna, Jr.

COMMENTS: Carlson is the highest returning medalist in this weight class and beat Gaffney for 3rd last year at state. Brandon Schram is the next highest medalist followed by three quality wrestlers to round out the top 6 for the 120 lb. weight class.

126

1.) Gage Krolikowski, Valentine, So.

2.) Noah Styskal, David City, Jr.

3.) Patrick Powers, Broken Bow, So.

4.) Owen Lade, Battle Creek, So.

5.) Lane Bridgmon, Syracuse, Sr.

6.) Kobe Brandenburg, Central City, Jr.

COMMENTS: Krolikowski is a returning State Champ deserving of the number 1 spot. Styskal placed 5 last year while Lade finished 3rd at 120. Lade is going down to 120 again, that is the reason why Styskal is rated over him right now. Bridgmon and Brandenburg round out the top 6 with two quality wrestlers.

132

1.) Jordan Kelber, Valentine, Sr.

2.) Cody Yawn, Pierce, Sr.

3.) Damien Kersten, Battle Creek, Jr.

4.) Lane Brown, Gibbon, Sr.

5.) Jacson Valentine, David City, So.

6.) Anton Carlson, Sutton, Sr.

COMMENTS: Kelber is a returning State Champ at the number 1, followed by Yawn. Yawn is a good wrestler who is underfeated and back at the same weight from last year. Kersten from Battle Creek ended last year with a 5th place finish but has one loss this season. Brown and Valentine are both good wrestlers and earn the fourth and fifth rated spots. Carlson has been beaten by Brown from Gibbon so that is why he is in the 6 spot.

138

1.) Max Hughes, Syracuse, Sr.

2.) Evan Waddington, Wood River, Jr.

3.) Justin White, David City, Jr.

4.) JJ Ramon, Valentine, Sr.

5.) Brandon Wardman, North Bend, Sr.

6.) Chase Smith, Gibbon, Sr.

COMMENTS: Number 1 spot goes to the returning State Champ Hughes. Waddington was a Runner-Up last year and has the number two spot. White is the returning 3rd place medalist from David City. JJ Ramon, Wardman, and Smith are all good wrestlers that will mix things up as the season goes on.

 145

1.) Melvin Hernandez, David City, Sr.

2.) Ty Heimes, Battle Creek, Jr.

3.) Gavin Avery, Centennial, Sr.

4.) Talon Mues, Arlington, Jr.

5.) Jacob Ray, North Bend, Jr.

6.) Chase Olson, Valentine, So.

COMMENTS: Hernandez has been hurt so far this season but is a returning State Champ at the number 1 spot. Heimes got 4th last year at 138 to earn the number 2 rating. Avery and Mues are good wrestlers that go at the 3 and 4 ratings. Jacob Ray from North Bend has one lost and that is to Mues, that is why he is at the 5 spot. Chase Olson from Valentine is tough but he is going all the weigh up from 106 last year. This is a tough weight class and looks to be exciting for the rest of the season.

152

1.) Cooper Bates, Wilber-Clatonia, Sr.

2.) Spencer Warner, Louisville, Sr.

3.) Joel Myers, Broken Bow, Sr.

4.) Jacob Tracy, Gibbon, Sr.

5.) Blake Heller, Battle Creek, Sr.

6.) Brody Benson, Valentine, Jr.

COMMENTS: This weight class is pretty wide open this year. Bates from Wilber-Clatonia is the 152 returning 5th place medalist followed by Warner who placed 5th at 145. Myers is returning to 152 and looks solid so far this season. Tracy is undefeated so far and deserves the number 4 ranking. Heller is looking to improve on his 6th place finish at 145. Benson moves up from 120 to make a statement at 152. All quality wrestlers looking to win that State Championship.

 160

1.) Kyle Petree, Aquinas, Sr.

2.) Caleb Long, Valentine, Jr.

3.) Zach Borer, North Bend, Jr.

4.) Tucker Schneiderheinz, Central City, Sr.

5.) Jaden Janssen, Crofton, Sr.

6.) Ryan Haskell, Madison, Sr.

COMMENTS: Talk about tough. Kyle Petree is the 160 lb. Champion and in the number 1 spot followed by the 152 Champion Caleb Long from Valentine. Zach Borer is a good wrestler that finished 3rd a year ago and looks to get back on the top of the podium. Schneiderheinz and Janssen are both quality guys at 4 and 5 while Haskell from Madison rounds out the top 6 guys in the state. This looks like a 3 man race right now but there is a lot of wrestling left in the season.

170

1.) Michael Coufal, Aquinas, Sr.

2.) Joel Hines, North Bend, Sr.

3.) Brady Hull, Logan View, Jr.

4.) Quentin Moles, Crofton, Sr.

5.) Clayton Koch, Arlington, Sr.

6.) Brady Knott, Louisville, So

COMMENTS: Not to much to talk about with this weight class. Pretty wide open. The next ratings will show more since some of these guys will have wrestled each other by then.

 182

1.) Joseph Reimers, Aquinas, Jr.

2.) Donald Stephen, Valentine,Sr.

3.) Dalton Mueller, North Bend, Sr.

4.) Haydn Deinert, Malcolm. Jr.

5.) Luke Fairbanks, Bishop Neumann, Jr.

6.) Ethan Poppe, Crofton-Bloomfield, Sr.

COMMENTS: Reimers earns the top spot by being the returning State Champ at this weight class. Stephen comes in at a close second being a returning State Champ at 170. Dalton Mueller comes in at the number 3 spot being a returning medalist. Deinert, Fairbanks, and Poppe are all returning qualifiers which is why they are 4, 5, and 6 respectively.

195

1.) Ethan Gabriel, Ord, So.

2.) Marce Vasquez, Bridgeport, Sr.

3.) Wyatt Kee, Gibbon, Sr.

4.) Logan Schluckbeier, Lincoln Christian, Sr.

5.) Ryder Fuchs, Pierce, Jr.

6.) Brock Ray, North Bend, Sr.

COMMENTS: Gabriel is a returning Runner-Up and looking to get to the top of that podium as a sophomore. Honestly, the rest of this weight class is wide open and looking to see if they can knock off Gabriel.

 220

1.) Bryan McGahan, Hershey, Sr.

2.) Matt Eilers, David City, Sr.

3.) Treyvon Brooks, Broken Bow, Jr.

4.) Julio Sanchez, Wakefield—Allen, Sr.

5.) Marshall Still, South Loup, Sr.

6.) Hunter Kocian, St. Paul, Sr.

COMMENTS: McGahan earned 3rd place last year and sits at the top spot. Eilers lost to McGahan in the heart break last season and looks to avenge that loss throughout the season. Brooks, Sanchez, Still, and Kocian are all quality wrestlers looking to get that Gold medal in February.

285

1.) Caleb Lefferdink, Syracuse, Sr.

2.) Aaron Hinojosa, Chase County, Sr.

3.) Evan Welsh, Bishop Neumann, Sr.

4.) Jacob Jerabek, ALC, So.

5.) Riley Moses, Fillmore Central, Jr.

6.) Hunter Rempe, South Central NE Unified District #5, Sr.

COMMENTS: Lefferdink returns to the number 1 spot after winning this weight class last year. Hinojosa is a returning runner-up at 220 which earns him the 2 spot. Welsh will be in the mix after missing the post season last year. Jerabek, Moses, and Rempe all are quality HWT’s that will add good competition at this weight class.
