Coaches Hall of Fame: Dan Brost

Hall of Fame – 1994

“He’s sincere.” “He really cares about the kids, both on the mat and in the classroom.” “He can get the most they can give from them.” “He’s just an all-around nice guy.” Quotable quotes!! They come from parents, athletes, friends who have known Dan Brost since he began with the Mullen wrestling program in l978 as an assistant coach. Assuming the head coaching position in l980 Coach Brost has taken the State Crown 5 times, (his most recent, l994) and has been runner-up 2 times. His Mullen Bfoncos have finished in the Top 10 twelve of the last 13 years! Can anyone top that!? He has had 8 District Championships, 3 times runner-up, 56 regular season tournament wins, 62 individual District Champs, 22 State Champs, and 63 State Medalists. In addition he has had time to serve on the NSWCA Board 2 terms, (being elected tohis 3rd term this year)_, been voted by his peers as the NSWCA Coach of the Year ’85, ’89, ’90, ’94. He was chosen as the Head Coach for the East/West All Star Dual in ’90 and was NCA Coach of the Year that same year. He has been a state nominee for National Coach of the Year (NHSACA) in ’91 & ’92. In all of this traveling, time, meetings, etc., he has only walked off once without his jacket, traveling some 30miles before remembering he may need it !! Counting several moments as his biggest thrill : having 5 individual State Champs in l990, taking home the first State Champ Trophy in l985, coaching the West Team in the All Star Meet of l990, and above all – working with dedicated wrestlers throughout his tenure in Mullen, Coach Brost will be introduced by his friend, Ken Rigler of Calloway, who just happens to be a rival coach.
