Dom began the wrestling program in Burwell in ’72where he stayed as head coach until ’91. Moving to Ogallala he has been the assistant from 2001 – the present. While at Burwell he coached 1 3x State Champ, 2 2x State Champs, and 3 1x State Champs. He has had 38 State Medal Winners. His teams were State Runner-up in ’79 & ’80, taking 3rd in ’85 & ’87. His teams finished in the Top Ten ’79-’80, District Champs ’78,’80, ’84, ’88 and Lou Platte Conference Champs 5x. Dom has been on othe NCA’s Wrestling Advisory Committee and was instrumental in changing the State Wrestling medal awards from 5 to 6 places. He started the Burwell Pee Wee Wrestling program in ’77 and was the co-founder of the Ogallala Huskerland Wrestling program in ’01 which continues today. Special honors include being one of the Top Ten Class C Teams of the 80’s by Guy Mytty (Hall ’88), winning the John McIntyre/Brett Wattnem Memorial Award in ’94, sponsoring the AAU Wr. Exchange program to Columbia, South America in ’84, and being Athletic Director at Burwell for 15 years. Biggest thrills come in having coached Mark Jensen (Hall ’99) to 3 State Titles and seeing him inducted into the NSWCA Hall of Fame. In addition he recalls taking a beginning wrestling program to one of the best in Class C and watching former wrestlers pursue coaching careers in wrestling probrams throughout the state.
