Coaches Hall of Fame: Jack Murray

Hall of Fame – 2003

Jack began his career in Palmer where he started the wrestling program. Moving on to Sidney after 2 yrs., he took the position of assistant coach. While there they gathered 8 State Champs, one State Championship Team, and 2nd place 3x. Moving on to Omaha Cathedral he was head coach for 2 years. Next stop was Superior where he stayed 10 yrs. and had one state champ. Next and last stop was Ashland-Greenwood for 17 yrs. where his teams placed in the Top Ten for 5 yrs. He added 5 State Champs to the roster and also racked up 52 straight duel wins. They were District Champs one season and runner-up 3x. Then add to this 30+ invitational titles. He has been a member of NSWCA 23 yrs. and served as president in ’95-’96. Jack feels the process of developing all of his wrestlers is the greatest “payback”. The championships were also special and he really enjoyed the practices as much as the competitions. He is being introduced by Mike Smith, friend, former wrestler, and former assistant coach.
