Coaches Hall of Fame: Larry Anderson

Hall of Fame – 1989

Here is a coach who really cares about his wrestlers and his community, attested to by the fact that he has been at Wymore-Southern for 22 years. During those years he has produced many fine young men through his wrestling program and his personal involvement with the sport. He has had two state championship teams in 1974 and 1980 and was runner-up three times in 1971, 1975 and 1981. He can also lay claim to nine state champs. He served as NSWCA President in 1980 and held coaches meetings in two sessions during the state meet so coaches could have a voice in the sport. He was a team leader and coach of cultrual exchange trips to Romania and West Germany and was NSWCA Class C Representative in 1979. Larry was the Beatrice Daily Sun’s choice for Coach of the Year in 1981 and he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Wymore Alumni Association in 1984. This gentleman whose low-key approach to his personal success counts as his biggest thrill having “his kids” take the conference championship in 1969 and capturing top honors at state twice. Larry is also responsible for the design of the Hall of Fame plaques each inductee receives.
