Coaches Hall of Fame: Mo Teherani

Hall of Fame – 1984

One of the more colorful and enthusiastic coaches in Nebraska history. Mo built teams at Valentine that are remembered with awe. Coming from the western part of the state his teams dominated the wrestling in Class B for several years. Realizing strength comes from a strong kids’ program he started his wrestlers at an early age and coached them through high school. Always looking for tougher competition, Mo ventured further east into territory claimed by Class A schools; one being the infamous North High Invitational. Mo racked up an impressive 110-14-2 record with six district crowns, three state championships, eight individual state champions, and coached All-American and Hall of Famer Steve Ravenscroft. Coach Teherani coached his team to 54 consecutive dual victories and had seven undefeated seasons of 12 with him at the helm.

A philosopy to be proud of—Mo taught his kids, “In order to be a class wrestler, you have to be a class person.” Coach Teherani felt he coached more than just wrestling and estimates that participation in this sport provided incentive for some 50 potential high school drop-outs to earn their diplomas.
