Coaches Hall of Fame: Pat Cullen

Hall of Fame – 1992

Spending his entire coaching career of 16 years in Alliance, Pat has compiled a most impressive record with his boys. His teams were State Champs three times and runner-up once. Fourteen of his athletes became state champions and 55 were state medal winners. Tournament wins were a collectable item also as they numbered 31. With one NAIA National Qualifier he closed his career with a dual record of 86-44-1 in 1990. Branching out from high school wrestling Pat gave time to kids as Kid’s Federation Coach and Junior Director of the Kid’s Federation.

As a credit to his “coach-ability” as viewed by his peers in the state he was chosen NSWCA Coach of the Year in 1985 and 1986, a feat not yet duplicated in the history of the banquet. He was also chosen NCA Coach of the Year in 1986. Claiming his entire wrestling career as his biggest thrill, Pat also enjoyed working with troubled kids that he knows would not have made it through school without the wrestling program.
