Coaches Hall of Fame: Randy Kliment

Hall of Fame – 2000

Believe it – twenty years in coaching and all twenty are at Creighton, NE because Coach Kliment “likes it”! A fitting tribute to the town , the school system, and the people. Randy wrestled in high school at Raymond Central for Coach Mick Pierce (Hall-’ 89) and chose rugby as his sport while attending UNL. Going to Creighton for his new career as a coach he has collected some impressive stats: His dual record stands at 114-39-1. He has had 85 Tournament Team titles, with 46 titles at runner-up. His boys have been in the Top Ten at state 13 times. They have been first at districts nine times and runner up five times. He has had ten State Champs with 60 medal winners from 134 state qualifiers. Randy started the Kids Club his first year at Creighton and about three years later started, and still coaches, the junior high team. A memory of an outstanding match between Rick Hasenpflug and Kurt Bohaboj is easily recalled. Kurt had beaten Rick 3 times during the season, but not so in the finals at State that year when Rick took the State Title. While wrestling the team from Neligh under the direction of Bob Deter it came to the heaveyweight match and Neligh took it, as well as the State Title that year. Good job by all! Rick has been chosen NSWCA District Coach several times and was selected assistant, moving to head coach, of the NSWCA All Star Classic in 1994 and 1995. He is introduced by his former high school coach, Mick Pierce of Lincoln.
