Competitors Hall of Fame: Dirk Desmond

Hall of Fame – 2014

Dirk Desmond was a four time state champion compiling a record of 136-3 wrestling for Hebron High School.  While competing for Hebron, he helped lead Hebron High School to win two state titles underneath the guidance of Dan Desmond, his dad.  Other accomplishments while in high school are winning four district championships, recipient of the NSWCA Guy Myty Award for Class C, being named All Tribland Wrestler of the Year three times, and selected to be apart of the NSWCA East West Dual Team.  Accomplishments in competing in freestyle during high school are competing in the USA Cadet and Junior National Championships and winning a Southern Plains Regional.  After high school, Dirk wrestled at the University of Missouri for a year then transferred to the University of Nebraska at Omaha. At UNO, Dirk lettered three years and started for a year.

Dirk currently teaches and coaches at Milford High School.  He lives in Lincoln with his wife Sarah.  Reflecting back, his greatest memories of competing in wrestling was competing for his dad at Hebron and being apart of the UNO team.  He remembers setting goals, working hard towards accomplishing the goals, and the thrill of accomplishing goals.  He also has fond memories of the bonds that were made and the family atmosphere at both Hebron and at UNO.
