Competitors Hall of Fame: Ed Arends

COMPETITOR
Hall of Fame – 2013
Mullen

I wrestled at Mullen High School under four different coaches: Jim Sutherland, Charles Rector, Alan Brosozky, and Russ Jensen. I got my start by going to practice when I was an eighth grader but it wasn’t until the first day of practice my freshman year, when Coach Sutherland handed me a pair of wrestling shoes. I decided to go out for wrestling – since I had no basketball shoes.  I was blessed to be on three straight State Wrestling Teams 1969, 1970, and 1971.We had as many as 30 or more out for wrestling including four sets of brothers which always made for some interesting practices.  Like most schools back then we practiced on the stage which was usually exciting with people going over the stage and a few conflicts with the basketball coaches and players. I have many fond memories wrestling at Mullen High School.  I have been involved with wrestling since 1967 and still go to practices and meets and enjoy the wrestling. This award bestowed on me by the NSWCA is something I am proud of and am so humbled and thankful for. Thanks for keeping us old timers in your thoughts and part of this great organization.
