Mr. Reese is one of the select few that managed to earn four gold medals in the state wrestling tournament. Reese earned those medals from 1944 to 1947 in weights 155, 165 and heavyweight. He was undefeated his last three years and won all his matches on falls during his senior year campaign.

His athletic prowess was not only on the mat as he excelled at other sports as well. He enrolled at UNL and participated in both football and wrestling. He managed to earn three Big 8 Conference titles and earned a bronze medal at the national tournament during his sole year of national competition. His only college losses were to Olympic champions Glen Brand and Bill Smith and also to Hall of Fame member Joe Scarpello the year he earned the bronze medal in the nationals.
