Competitors Hall of Fame: Len Dickinson

Hall of Fame – 2004
Lincoln East

Beginning his wrestling journey in ’64 while in junior high under the direction of Newt Copple (Hall, ’83) and Harry Thompson, Len moved on to Lincoln SE and Lincoln East where his high school record was 67-3. He was a State Champ his junior year at 145 and his senior year at 154. Coach Jim Holechek (Hall ’84) has this to say: “He lost only once as a sophomore (1st round at state, no wrestle-backs then) and was undefeated his jr. and sr. years. His win in ’70 gave us the State Title. If he had lost we would have finished 3rd. He wrestled and defeated the same kid from Scottsbluff both his last years.” In additon Len was Scholastic Wrestling News All American and nominee for the Omaha World Hearld’s Athlete of the Year in ’70. He is a member of the Lincoln East High School Hall of Fame. He attended UNL and lettered all 4 yrs. He won the SunshineOpen Tournament as a freshman and took the Great Greco-Roman Tournament as a sophomore. He has also done junior officiating, is an active member of the Husker Wrestling Club and a full time volunteer assistant at Wisner-Pilger. His biggest thrill was when he and friend John Lowe along with the coaches were able to guide a generally inexperienced team to Lincoln East’s 1st State Championship. Len says, “This experience became the foundation which enabled me to serve others in various leadership positions in later years.”Len is introduced by his former coach, Jim Holechek.
