Competitors Hall of Fame: Phil Monaco

COMPETITOR
Hall of Fame – 1986
Omaha

Honored yearly in the NSAA’s State Tournament Wrestling Program in the elite list ot three-time state champions as “Follie Monaco”, Phil began his career at Omaha Technical High School. At a time when high school wrestling was unheard of in out-state Nebraska Phil showed his stle and class by capturing the state crown not once but three times. He accomplished the feat in the 165 pound class with an actual body weight of only 154 pounds in 1935 and followed with titles in ’36 and ’37. He also claimed city championship honors in each of those three years.

Mr. Monaco says his biggest thrills were a 22 second pin and defeating one of the top heavyweights in the city.
