Competitors Hall of Fame: Tom Ruffino

Hall of Fame – 2010
Omaha South

Tom Ruffino was a 4 time state medalist, including 3 times in the finals winning the state title in 1962.  Compiling a 110-14 he was the intercity champ 3 times, district champ twice, won the South Invite 3 times and the North Invite once.  His former coach Beauford Hazlip stated his epic battles with Dale Simmonds (Hall 2007) filled the gym when they wrestled.  After a tremendous athletic career earning letters in track and football as well, Ruffino accepted a full ride wrestling scholarship to Kansas State, he later transferred to UNO where he compiled a 35-14 record, twice qualifying for nationals after earning 2nd place honors in the regionals.

He has contributed to wrestling by helping build the Omaha Skutt Catholic practice facility, and serving on the Omaha Skutt Catholic school board from 1998-2004.  His biggest thrill was winning a state championship in 1962 and being a member of a team that took only seven qualifiers to the state tournament, but still managed to win the TEAM TITLE.  Tom is being introduce by his former coach, Beauford Hazlip, Hall ‘84.
