Mike Denney has been making contributions to wrestling since he was a heavyweight at Neligh High School under Hall of Fame coach Roger Barry and this gentleman has not stopped yet! His ready smile, quick step, and firm handshake attest to the fact that Mike Denney is just what the UNO slogan states: “No brag—just facts!”, a young man genuinely interested in wrestling. His mark at Dakota Wesleyan stands at 60-13, earning him election to the 1969 Outstanding College Athletes of America.

He coached in the Omaha Public Schools for 10 years and since 1979 has been the head coach at UNO. He was selected NCAA Division II Coach of the the Year in 1981, initiated and ran the UNO Open the largest single day collegiate tournament in the nation, is past president of the NCAA Division II Coaches’ Associate, 1986 Coach of the East/West All Star Classic, Outstanding Young Man of America(1980) started and sponsored Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapters in several Omaha Schools, served on NSAA Wrestling Rules Committee, conducts numerous seminars and clinics ranging from “street awareness” to hypnosis, served as chairman of NCAA Dvision II Wrestling Championships Committee, color commentator on NTV for the state wrestling tournament, and the credits go on and on, a tribute to wrestling in Nebraska and to the wrestling family in the nation.
