Officials Hall of Fame: Bill Phipps

Hall of Fame – 2006

Starting out in the wrestlng world in Mullen, Bill was a 4x state qualifier
and a 3x place winner. Wanting to continue to be involved in this great
sport he began officiating in December of ’99. He worked the western part
of the state for the first few years and then worked his first State
Tournament in 1986. He officiated that meet for 15 years , retiring this
year after 27 consecutive years as an official. He is a Charter Member and
Officer of the Western Nebraska Wrestling Officials and was Nebraska State Tournament Assistand in ’05 and ’06. He has volunteered his services to officiate several local Huskerland Tournaments and UNK’s Midwest Classic. He was chosen NSWCA Official of the Year in 1 986 and Western Nebraska Wrestling Official of the Year in 2003. His biggest thrill was being selected to work his first state tournament in 1 986 and subsequently being selected as NSWCA Official of the Year that same year!
