Officials Hall of Fame: Ed Kruml

Hall of Fame – 2000

Ed has the honor of joining a very elite group in the NSWCA Hall where he will become the thirteenth official to be inducted in the nineteen years of this banquet. Ed had no past experience in this sport, as did so many of the coaches of this time, except for the fact that is dad was a “professional rassler”. In Ed’s words he “hit the road blind”. He did, however, help Jack Ramey (Hall – 1987) UNK coach, where his interest grew. He then coached at Ord from 1972-1977. Other duties called him away from coaching but he turned to officiating and stuck with it for twenty years before retiring in 1995. He worked the State Tournament eight years and remembers his first year at State was the last year the tournament was held at Pershing Auditorium in downtown Lincoln. Officials were repeatedly told to “protect the kids”, due to the fact that the floor space was so limited. He considers his biggest thrill being able to work the Devaney Center with its seemingly unlimited space for mats, athletes, and fans. He is being introduced by his friend, Dave Schrader.
