Officials Hall of Fame: Michael Mitchell

Hall of Fame – 2009

While in high school at Wyoming High School , Michael was runner-up in 1971 and took third place in 1970. He coached at West Holt High School from 1976-1980 and at Rushville High School from 1980 – 1984. While coaching at West Holt he brought that program to a respectable level and then he moved to Rushville and kept that program at the top of Class C He began officiating in 1985 and still continues to do so. He has officiated the State Tournament fourteen times and the NSWCA All Star Classic two times – once in Schuyler and once in Cozad. He can also proudly claim the title of NSWCA Official of the Year in 1996 and Football Shrine Bowl Assistant Coach in 1994. His biggest thrill was being on official alley during the Parade of Champions at the Devaney Center in 1989 and seeing the excitement and enthusiasm when Tim Ferguson was selected to officiate his first State Tournament. Michael is being introduced by his friend and fellow official Jim Ayres.
