NSWCA Class A Top 10 Meet/Dual Teams and Top 6 Individuals #5
Raters: Todd Porter Bellevue East (Meets/Individuals) & Michael Jernigan Omaha Westside (Duals)
Top 10 Class A Meet Teams #5
- Lincoln East
- Millard South
- Omaha Burke
- Millard West
- Papillion LaVista
- Omaha Central
COMMENTS: I am taking a leap of faith and placing Kearney on top for my last rankings before State. More of a “gut feeling”, just think Swarm’s crew will peak right at the end. Plus…Lincoln East has had some guys banged up the past month, and Gretna definitely lost some power when their #2 126 Van Schmidt and #3 195 Soucek went down with injuries…they are OUT for Districts. Hurts their chances considerably…thus….Millard South moving past them into the #3 spot. Burke and Millard West should stay right where they are…give or take a spot, with their 4-5 studs each, especially Burke, with 3 legit State Champ hopefuls. The rest of the Top 10 could fluctuate, and there are several teams not listed here who could slip in the Top 10 at the end, due to draws and upsets: Fremont, Lincoln SE, maybe my squad, Papillion LaVista South, Lincoln High…as I have said all season…there is a LOT of parity from probably 7 – 15 in Class A this season.
Top 10 Class A Dual Teams #5
COMMENTS: Here are the final Dual Team ratings for Class A. I took a look at each district and tried to place out where each team will finish as District Champions and Runner-Ups. Depending on some of the team’s finishes in Districts, a few teams could change the State Dual Championship outlook.
Top 6 Individuals
- Jakason Burks Omaha Burke
- Caleb Coyle Millard South
- Quentin Donald. Omaha Benson
- Nic Swift Lincoln East
- Dailyn Richie Kearney
- Juan Pedro Grand Island
COMMENTS: Burks took some time off late, but remains the top guy…pound for pound one of best in State. Donalds ‘s stock has risen. Richie returns after some strong late wins.
- Emilio Haynes Omaha Central
- Ladamien Sturdivant Omaha Bryan
- Blake Jackson Millard South
- Darian Diaz North Platte
- Dion Bonham Omaha Burke
- Brayden Smith Kearney
COMMENTS: This should be one of Class A’s best weights at State…there are 3-4 kids NOT rated who probably deserve to medal as well, and may sneak in yet, like Kobza of Columbus. The top 4 especially are super tough…Haynes beat both the 2#2 & #3’s to winMetros…can he do it again? Diaz is so dangerous, and he has the advantage of not having been seen by many of the top kids. This is going to be a fun weight to watch play out in Omaha!
- Maxx Mayfield Lincoln East
- Connor Knopick. Millard South
- Cody Fielder Fremont
- Cody Niemec Papillion LaVista
- Camden Russell Millard West
- Jordan Barber North Platte
COMMENTS: I don’t see anybody beating Mayfield. He doesn’t give much up, and is solid in all positions. Knopick is the best chance to give him trouble..while Fielder remains a tough go for anybody. Niemic and Russell likewise. Good weight also!
- Phillip Moomey Kearney
- Carter Kucera Columbus
- Nolan Niemic Papillion LaVista
- Cole Zebley Millard West
- Peyton Meink Millard North
- Caelan Hester Bellevue East
COMMENTS: I will say it: nobody is beating Moomey. The rest will scrap for the chance to see him in the Finals. Meink is a late comer, dropping after Metro’s to 126, going 5 – 0 since, and is very solid.
- Cody Carlson Fremont
- Jack Huffman Millard West
- Jerryd Hernandez Lincoln Northstar
- Corbin Sindel Lincoln Northeast
- Trevor Fauver Gretna
- Creighton Baughman Papillion LaVista
COMMENTS: Carlson has been rock solid all season, and Huffman hasn’t lost for 30 something matche sin a row…those two would be a great final. Trouble is, Sindel and fast rising Hernandez are also to be reckoned with. Hernandez beat Sindel in the last meet by a 10-6 decision to warrant his big jump to 3rd. Hard to believe a 33-2 Fauver is only 5th! Baughman is a 2 time medalist, and only 6th? How do you say “tough dang weight class”! Another weight where 3-4 guys not ranked could place (Kuta/GI & Oltman/LSW).
- Nick James Kearney
- Tyler Cunningham Gretna
- Adam Kinnaman Lincoln East
- Deon Davis Omaha Central
- Arturo Salinas Papillion LaVista
- Josh Licking Norfolk
COMMENTS: James is a stud…can anybody in NE beat him? Cunningham has lost 2 decisions to him, and remains his biggest threat. Kinnamon looks fo rState Medal #4…after those 3, somewhat wide open. Could be some others in the mix at this weight also…I do not think every kid here is a medalist at the end.
- Chance Fry Lincoln East
- Ronnell Wells Omaha North
- Derek Wagstaff Bellevue East
- Teontae Wilson Kearney
- Levi May Millard West
- Garrett Svoboda Millard South
COMMENTS: Fry is a solid favorite here, with Wells and Wagstaff both banged up a bit late, especially Wells, who missed most of January, and has less than 10 matches on the mat going into Districts. The good thing for wells..he is in fry’s district, so won’t be on same half at State. Good weight class!
- DaShawn Dixon Lincoln East
- Cole Huss Gretna
- Kolton Silva Grand Island
- Tre’Vion Williams Omaha Central
- Jud Kucera Kearney
- Braxton Betancur Lincoln Southeast
COMMENTS: Dixon has been number one all year, although out a couple times in January, he is still easily the man to beat. Huss and Silva should be his best competition. The rest are a toss up, and a couple others not here could also slip onto the podium in Omaha.
- Isaac Trumble Millard South
- James Burks Omaha Burke
- Cody Everhart Gretna
- Cade Kammerer Lincoln East
- Preston Gallegos Lincoln SE
- Dorian Franklin Omaha Northwest
COMMENTS: Easily one of Class A’s best story lines for State: Burks/Trumble….#3 at Districts, and #4 in the State Finals. At at least we know they will definitely be on opposite sides at State. A deep weight, look for some not ranked to perhaps get on the podium in Omaha. District A2 has 3-4 possible State medalists alone!
- Isaiah Alford Lincoln High
- Braiden Ruffin North Platte
- Matt Sorich Millard West
- Kobe Everson Gretna
- Carson Swingman Columbus
- Grant Lyman Lincoln East
COMMENTS: Alford seems a prohibitive favorite here, has he has beaten both Ruffin and Sorich soundly. Ruffin was banged up late, and may not be 100%. Should be some great matches here, as the 4-6 guys are all very talented as well.
- Lance Jarrett Gretna
- Andrew Muthersbaugh Lincoln East
- Kasten Grape Columbus
- Nolan Johnston Omaha Westside
- Trajen Linear Papillion LaVista South
- Marcel Austin Lincoln High
COMMENTS: Jarrett is the favorite, with Muthersbaugh ranked #2 all year behind him…would be nice if they got on opposite sides of the bracket at State. After them, pretty wide open…the order above could easily jumble, plus a couple more just outside the rankings.
- Dylan Miller Omaha Burke
- Sean Jackson Kearney
- Elliot Alexander Lincoln East
- Anthony DeAnda Columbus
- Dalton Freiberg Norfolk
- Jarrett Myers Lincoln Southwest
COMMENTS: Miller has held #1 all season, and is the favorite. Jackson is a stud who has gone like 22-1 his last 23 matches to end the season. Would be a great Finals matchup! The rest could also mix up the order, as many have wrestled each other close this year.
- Matt Montgomery Norfolk
- Conner Fee Gretna
- Garrett Rollag Creighton Prep
- Gavin Peitzmeyer Millard South
- Caden Boesiger Lincoln Southwest
- Cade Haberman Omaha Westside
COMMENTS: Montgomery finished the season unbeaten, and hopes to stand atop the podium in Omaha. Fee is a hammer as well, along with Rollag, who has returned from injury lately. The others are all solid grapplers as well….a pretty good crop of 220’s this season. FR Haberman moved down from Hwt late, and many predict great things for the youngster…rare to be ranked at such a high weight class as a FR.
- Lee Harrington Kearney
- Conner Cowling Norfolk
- Jack Hasz Creighton Prep
- Ty Reynolds Bellevue West
- Markel Jackson Lincoln Southwest
- Drake Reinke Lincoln East
COMMENTS: Harrington is the man, and Kearney hopes they are in the State title chase when he steps on the mat in Omaha the final Saturday. He gave previously undefeated Cowling his first loss the last tourney, and has handled all comers fairly comfortably. After him… the heavies will almost assuredly jumble up my final rankings when the podium is filed. Might be a guy or two not listed here placing as well, as is often the case in the “push me – shove me – pin me” world of heavyweight wrestling! Good weight class!
