Top 10 Class C Teams in Meets / Preseason 2017-8

  1. Valentine
  2. Battle Creek
  3. North Bend
  4. Broken Bow
  5. David City
  6. Syracuse
  7. Ord
  8. Aquinas
  9. Gibbon
  10. Central City
  11. Raters: Jared Owens Tekamah Herman & Jason Freudenberg Madison

COMMENTS: Valentine returns 146 state points and are the early favorite to repeat as both tournament and dual champs.  The next four spots I predict will be separated by only a few points.  I am going to give the nod to Battle Creek because I think they will have more medalist than the other teams and a lot of points can be scored on Saturday Morning.  Next I have North Bend because I think they have the potential for 3-4 finalist.  Broken Bow and David City look to have solid teams and could end up with more medalist than North Bend but at this time seem to lack the high end points.  It will be very interesting to see how the new weight rule effects were kids go and may have a big impact on the class C runner up race.  I have Syracuse next with two State champions that can both get a lot of bonus points.  Ord will have a very solid line up as they return almost everyone from last years team.  Aquinas is also a team with a lot of firepower and a pretty solid wrestler at every weight.  Gibbon has a ton of older wresters that won a lot of matches and have been close to reaching the medal stand while Central City will be fairly young with a lot of potential.  I think Central City will be a lot tougher at the end of the year.

Class C Top 10 Teams in Duals / Preseason 2017-8

COMMENTS: I think Battle Creek will have a much better chance at knocking of the defending champs in a dual setting.  They are solid at nearly every weight, however I think Valentine’s ability for bonus points will just be too much in the end.  I also wouldn’t sleep on Broken Bow or David City as a dual team.  They produce tough wrestlers every year sprinkled in with a few guys that could really pin nearly everyone they wrestle.  North Bend’s dual success I think would have a lot to do with match ups.  They no doubt have a lot of firepower that would be tough for any team to overcome, but they also could give up a lot of points as well against some of the teams ahead of them.  Ord and Gibbon will have nice line up with a solid wrestler in nearly every weight.  Aquinas and Syracuse have a couple of studs but will need to bring along some other wrestlers to really fill out a dual team.  Central City again is unproven and may lose some duals at the beginning of the year but I think they will be a dangerous team to dual should they make the state dual tournament after some of their younger kids get some high school experience.
